Dave Dorans has over 30+ years working for numerous industry leading companies in the insurance and financial services sector. A consistent theme in his experience is a focus on the transformation of the antiquated processes in the life insurance sector with the goal of making industry products more accessible to consumers.
Before joining Clareto, Dave was the Senior VP of the Value- Added Services Division at Transamerica Reinsurance/Scor and spent 8 years on the Executive Management team at Transamerica Re. As part of that role, he was the CEO of Velogica, an industry leading automated underwriting solution that enabled the issuance of over 3 Million life insurance policies with average processing times under 2 minutes utilizing sophisticated data analysis, algorithms and automation. Dave’s team provided numerous other services to life carriers including product development consulting and services, life product pricing and the development of underwriting programs including offering white-label outsourced underwriting solutions.
Prior to that, Dave spent over 15 years working in a variety of roles spanning the life insurance industry. He worked for a major Wall Street brokerage firm in their insurance and annuity division, spent several years working for one of the country’s largest Brokerage General Agencies and was an executive at several major life insurance carriers including First Colony Life Insurance Company and Provident Mutual.
Dave has been a speaker at many major industry conferences and participated in numerous Boards and Committees.
Dave is a graduate of Duke University and lives in Charlotte NC with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys multiple fitness activities, outdoor sports and fly-fishing.
Steve Leighty is a 20+ year veteran in information technology and software development, with over 10 years focusing on healthcare innovation and interoperability. Steve has served as a software engineer, an architect, and in several managerial roles. He is the VP of IT and Operations and also serves as the Chief Information Security Officer for Clareto.
Steve believes interoperability and standards-based exchange can improve patient care and expedite business processes through the electronic exchange of healthcare data. Steve supported MedVirginia as the first HIE to automate the Social Security Administration’s application process to gain access to electronic health records using a national interoperability standard which later became known as the eHealth Exchange. Steve also lead MedVirginia to be the first HIE to utilize those standards to share data between the Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense and the private sector health systems during the VLER project. Steve now leverages that experience to bring automation of retrieval of electronic health records to Clareto’s partners in support of new use cases.
Steve holds certifications in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), Health Information Exchange (CPHIE), Electronic Health Records (CPEHR) and Health Information Technology (CPHIT). He also is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Steve holds a degree in computer engineering from Virginia Tech
In addition to his professional life, Steve founded and serves as president of The Dreamfield Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit that raises money for scholarships through the production of live concerts with national touring acts. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
Katie is an experienced leader, with a passion for driving digital health transformation. Prior to joining the Clareto team, Katie was Director of Electronic Health Strategy at MassMutual, where she had a proven track record for developing innovative strategies and solutions to acquiring electronic health data.
Katie led complex integration projects related to the expansion of Pioneer Valley Information Exchange (PVIX) in Massachusetts. Prior to that, she spent several years working on various clinical applications, specializing in computerized physician order entry (CPOE), electronic documentation, and ambulatory order management. Katie was also Manager of Innovation Delivery at TechSpring, where she helped top technology vendors develop cutting edge solutions to real-world healthcare problems.
Katie holds a bachelor and master’s degree in business from Western New England University, and is a Certified Scrum Master (CSM). She has done extensive research in the areas of electronic health data and its protective value for life insurance operations. She plans to expand this research to include disability claims and worker’s compensation.
Katie lives in Massachusetts with her husband and three children. In her spare time, she enjoys distance running, spending time with her family and trips to Cape Cod.
